And So It Begins....

Somehow, blogging took a backseat in this offseason. My bad.

Our trip out to Nationals was a bit more than eventful - I'd try to explain it, but you'd have to be squished into a baby seat, have fumes blowing in your face, and be stuck facing a giant white screen for 30+ hours. I can't figure out how the guys made it to Lincoln in under 24 hours last time. Once we got there it was ok, but I'm pretty sure we might not have made it if we didn't make a pit stop in Ohio for a load leveling hitch. Note to self - if you're following an enclosed trailer, make sure you have a walkie talkie so you can tell them they're about to flip over.

Upon getting to the site (and Wiley drove most of the way, so thanks Wiley!), we were about 60th in line at 3am...wtf? After some much needed shuteye, we got in and managed to save a bunch of (yet somehow not enough) paddock spots, and ended up across from my WDCR friend, is somehow unable to ride a bike.  As I was not participating in the Pro Finale, I took the opportunity to say hello to our friends from far away.

I can't comment much on the Pro Finale - I didn't participate and ended up kicking myself. I was a one-eventer, and one is the loneliest number, so I sat cheering on the rest of the team. G-Fab's own Atlantic States Champion didn't fare so well either, but he can tell you about that.

We took Monday off of car stuffs so we could go and get married - yes, we took the plunge, and no, nothing is different. Aside from the fact that my name was changed at registration on Tuesday and it was broadcast that all over the SCCA Ustream.

I'm now fully convinced that a) you need to be 300 lbs+ to drive CP, and b) CP stands for Casualties Probable. I never want to run with CP or CPL again. I could stand running 5th heat again, but running with them is like just ASKING for a delay, an oiled down course, whatever. There was a huge delay on Day 1 when a CP car grenaded itself, so we sat in the shade trying to survive the hours before we were able to run again. 5th place after Day 1 wasn't too great - At least I was ahead of two people, but let's face it. Being that far off the leaders is no fun.

Day 2 was just as poor, with the Baby problems starting during second heat. The new water pump, with roughly 2000 miles on it, proved faulty and we were forced to take several mechanicals. While the impressed audience gathered around us ("I can't believe you got all those parts out, fixed it, and put it back together in 20 minutes!"), G-Fab and its affiliates pulled the best teamwork since Dover and Panda's wire-harness-eating. Unfortunately, we couldn't run with the water pump seal being blown, so Wiley missed out on his last runs, and Todd jumped into a nearby Corolla for his third run.

I had to work during third heat, so Big Bear and Tim Kong went to the local auto parts store and got a new water pump. PJ worked like the sweatshop Filipino that he is, and the car was back together and in grid, waiting for me, by 5th heat. All I can say is that I was very impressed, and super lucky. Luck ends there though, because there was another CP casualty, and another delay. When you're hot, sweaty, and tired, you don't drive well. I am a prime example. The standings from Day 1 didn't change, so I have a standing 5th place record with Nationals.

Our return home brought the Annual Team Challenge. There was some sneaking around, but I ended up driving a Honda CR-Z on Direzzas in FSP - imagine my surprise when I actually won, by a few seconds! Of course, because PJ is also sneaky, our teams tied for points but his team was overall higher in PAX standings, so I was jipped out of my first place trophy :( It was a good end to a good season.

We took the off-season to do some things like installing new fun parts on Panda, play around with Baby, get the G35 ready for DS, and buy a house and stuff. Yep, we're homeowners. We've had several small get-togethers since we've moved in, and it seems to handle company well. Now we just have to figure out where the turbo goes.

With LOTS of help, we got the G-Fab tire mounter/balancer in the basement, and experimented with Panda's old shoes on the 18x8" stock-size wheels for the G35. The experiment went well, and 315's on all four corners is just how we roll.

We decided that Baby just might need some rest after such an intense season, and with the G35 being reclassed into DS, it makes sense to at least try it. I'm hoping we can figure out a way to get more legal front camber, but if not, it will still be a really fun car to drive. We're in the process of upgrading the brakes (yay Porterfield). My birthday was earlier this month, and I got something every girl dreams of: A front swaybar.

The season has already started (where did the time go?!) with the first non-points event at Fairfield County Sports Car Club in Stratford, CT. Four spins, corded tires, and a new appreciation for warm weather later, I'm feeling more confident about driving a car with 120 more HP, two more cylinders, and about a square foot of more (and stickier) tire. I'm praying to the weather gods that April 7 will give me more of a feel of Hoosiers that actually stick - it's been years and it's not quite like riding a bike. After that is the DC Pro, where I'm going to embarrass myself again, but still have a great time. I'm actually super excited about the season, so I hope I don't suck. More to come....

Words fail, buildings crumble, the ground opens wide...

She's actual size but she seems much bigger to me....

or so we thought, but the G kind of makes it seem like we're not pulling a trailer loaded with gear and tires. That's right, we're taking the G down to GA. Why? Because you just read G-A-Y and you didn't even know it.

The short end of the story is that we (I?) just didn't get enough done on the 240sx to make it road worthy. It still needs a lot of minor things, and I've grown to hate my psuedo-fuel-management system which will be replaced promptly when I return because using the maths to calculate the theoretical load correction both to and from the stock ECU is just a pain in the ass. It's wiggity wack. I'll have to get hooked up by the C-Digity mack daddy when I return to the home addy. Siriusly.... like the Backspin channel we've been listening to for the past few hours.

So, our journey began a about 10:30pm last night. Since deciding the 240sx was not the choice car to drive some 1100 miles to and from a racing event, we had to prepare our backup car in true G-Fab fashion... or not, because it's the G, and is balla' like that. The G changes Ghetto to Glamorous like it was Fergie without the pee. I think I'm on drugs right now but I'm not sure... surely. For serious. Chris is driving with his legs crossed.

After installing the warrantied Koni double adjustable shock, we had to mount some race tires. Mike Shields came to our rescue with some take-offs from his stint at the DC Pro last year. I'm hoping the tires want to be more like his end of year performance, rather than what they did in DC. Scott Thursby was lying to us when he said it was 70 in the Carolinas. It's 38 where we are now. Wait.. 39... we're getting there.

So, with the need to mount and balance tires, and re-align the G to make the best of them, I needed some professional help, for a professional car, with professional wannabe drivers. Kyle Bishop at Bishop Motorsports to the rescue! His alignment rack is awesome. I just couldn't help but constantly compliment his beautiful rack.

So... we're now in the Carolinas. I'd post pics but you wouldn't be able to see the car, since it's so white it'd just glare at the camera. People in NJ through VA apparently can't drive in incliment weather, because they salted the un-holy fuck out of the roads. All that salt is now on my car, and Chris' trailer. More updates to come.... but really, things won't be interesting untill we meet up with Scott at the Hooters next to his hotel.

Top Ten Things I Learned at RAL 2007

10. Tire tread is for pansies. Real racers leave all their tread on the course.
9. It takes two men over an hour to set up a tent. It takes one man and one woman 20 minutes.
8. Braking before corners is optional.
7. Bourbon, Seagrams, Captain Morgan, several varieties of beer, and 20 drunk adults make good stories.
6. Golf carts all use the same key.
5. One can spend over 8 hours on a phone call to a foreign country for the low, low price of his dignity (plus $10 shipping and handling).
4. Jumping off a moving golf cart while drunk is a bad idea.
3. When climbing into a kart, do not touch the muffler.
2. Photos/video can and will be used for both public ridicule and blackmail.
1. Turn off the tent light.

HOLY TOLEDO

Fear the crispy white potatoe that IS the 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SPEC V GFAB EDITION MODEL. We're in your base killing your mans.

Chris is riding with KC and Nate somewhere an hour or two behind us, as we fly down I-80. Oh, and have I ever mentioned how much I do not happy am in the New York? Got lost TWICE and had to backtrack, but no biggie, there was an hour of traffic at like 11pm anyways. LAME.

Well, 4 hours later and Dave is now at the wheel, which means we're re-enacting Smokey and the Bandit, so KC if you're reading this, put the pedal to the metal. We've got them durn smokeys on our tail whippin' it down the ol' I-80 like a hog-tie-fest from the mid-south-west, so you're likely all set since it's a safe bet that them Police Interceptors haven't caught up to us yet.

One too many Redbulls....

Tripping Home

OTW back and it's nothing but fail city for the team. Quag's car is showing its age with a weak bladder, pissing oil intermittently. Mike's truck has been showing electrical issues on his way to Michigan. The Sentra... well it's fine. FINE I TELL YOU. Chris is returning home from his "family reunion". Yay driving. Yay highways. Yaaay.

BTW Scott Thursby is a fucking maniac. Rock on you red lighting blue light 153mph on our lazerjammingsignalssettostun DS Pro Solo winnar. If the dime wasn't complaining about how it used to drive uphill both ways to the body shop to do its own oil change not like the kids these days having all their stuff done by the confusing mangled web of tubes called the internet.... we'd probably attempt to keep up with you. I hope you're jamming as well... cause we're picking up "the man" on scan.

Good news and bad news

Good news: the Circle Line boat didn't sink.

Bad news: If the bus was a boat, it probably would have sunk:

...wishing I was at the Pro with my other family, and PJ, if you don't beat Dave, you're paying the rental bill for July.

Fingah Laikes PRO (Day ONE)

We raced. Yada yada. I drove something awful. It's Coor's Light Time, baby.

Captain Alex Shipkov leads DSP, followed by Mike My Fucking Nickname For Him Isn't Fucking Good ENough. White boy Dave Whitey somehow reached deep into his ass and found 3rd. I'm last because I sucked. And I can't defend it. QUag is a fucking douche and also sucked, and can't defend it. Fucking Datsun might run fine if it was a real car. WTB 50 MORE HP. kthx.

Scott THursby is leading DS due to his highly illegal lack of rear headrests, and is thankful the afternoon was slower than morning, and also slow enough to not realize his car is highly illegal.
Keith forgot swaybar mounts so he and Nate are not winning. I think they're getting beat by a girl.
Chang is winning HS. I'm sure his pack of women are having his monies made. Rob is sleeping at the light and almost pulling Dave-like R/T's.

Currently, a bunch of us are fucking around outside our ghetto hotel room. Dave is convinced a horror movie was filmed here. It's ghetto. The neighbors are almost louder than we are. Fucking Geneva ROCKS. Bar life is like some kid on a laptop playing shit off of his iTunes. Yay. It got quiet. I think they're on to me. This fucking blog. It will rule you all.

No pics yet cause Chris isn't here. Apparently his "family" is more important.

"Chris paid me to do it."

After realizing his driving was not up to snuff, Christopher Franson lashed out violently upon Mike Shields in an effort to win DSP.

Saved by a concrete barrier and the ridiculously stock ride height of the Sentra SpecGFab, Mike attempted to flee the scene, but was unable to enter his Titan in order to enact his escape.

Thus, he turned towards his trusty BMW in order to flee the scene, barely getting away thanks to his trusty soft PAX (*cough* bsp *cough*), but not before obtaining a hostage.

Attempts at communicating with the hostage have proven futile.

News to come as it unfolds.....

Chris Franson is not my hero.

Waiting for pictures before the weekend updates begin. I have video but I refuse to share at the moment. Basically I learned how not to shift into 3rd.

Event summary:
Me - 7th of 12
Everyone else- Trophies all around yay.

Being merciful, I enacted vengance by being the only person not sunburnt. I figured setting everyone's couch on fire would be a bit much, and I don't have that many matches.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

Dave White and I will be at Devens this weekend... thanks to the wonderful person who decided alcohol was a good idea in large doses while driving on the highway. After almost hitting Mike's truck... a drunk driver decided to go for accuracy and picked a nice small target: i.e. my 240sx.

Result: an hour of waiting for a cop and a tow truck to get us off the NY Thruway. An hour of waiting for the cop to give us a report (although we did verify that the drunk was being charged). Then 2 hours of waiting for a AAA flatbed to tow my car back to CT.

The's a huge mixture of emotions one goes through when losing something they've devoted a lot of time, effort, and money into....happiness is not one of them :(

GL to the DC guys that made it... I'll be rooting for you. I'll see the rest of you at Devens on Sunday.

First of all, Scott lacks html embedding skills.

Booya. Scott's run, without nasty links.

Second of all, the diehard crew ran NNJR this Saturday. Chris, Paul, Dave, and I went down to Jersey. That's right, we went to fucking JERSEY to autocross. Knee deep in the armpit of GOD BLESS AMERICA surroundedby vicious jerseyites and risking life and limb in foreign territory.

Good news: panda didn't break

Bad news: we didn't win, but our excuse is that we didn't want to set off the locals or anything. We were scared. We can admit it.

Anyways, here's us vying for RAW FTD because panda is now that fast.

Me:

Dave:

More detailed update later, but right now i'm beat like a red-headed stepchild. Not like the fire-crotch-blazing-hot girls that distract Chris at BMW events, but the ones that make you realize that yes, there is a thing called the "ugly stick" and it is indeed real.

"Whutchaywlll doooin'?"
"What?"
"Whutchyawwwll dooin?"
"Oh... nothing. Just hangin out."
"Ahhm Ruwssell Smeyith."
"Nice to meet you."

5 year old kids with Southern drawls are incredibly adorable. I can feel masculine saying that knowing he'll probably grow up to be the football quarterback and marry his highschool sweetheart and retire as a NASCAR driver. His life will be sponsored by every American beer known to man. I'm already proud to have shaken his hand.

So, I drove like an idiot, and wasted my first run on both days (the second day almost spinning twice). Oh well, live and learn. Chris won so I at least know it's not the car, completely. We still have too much body roll, although Chris Travis' higher inertial value probably aided to that in this picture:

Chris Franson was happy with his win. So happy, in fact, that when I made him carry all of our stuff back by hand, he still had that stupid "damn it's about time I accomplished that... gee I wonder if chicks dig Tour winners?" look.

No, Chris... the answer is "no".

So, the next event is a Philly one on the 17th of March, followed by a FCSCC event at NVCC. So many events, so much to add to the car.

We are still having fun. PJ hasn't quite been on the phone the entire time, but it's been close. I replaced the iPod and have loaded some music on it so I don't have to overhear every phone conversation.

I worked on my tan for a bit...

...and blew right past tan to red.
PJ worked on his tan for a bit...

...and, well, looks about the same as usual.

Now, for the event report:
The practice session on new tires yesterday led us to miss the setup a bit. We found the car a bit loose (I nearly spun my first run) so after 2nd runs, decided to let some air out of the rear tires. That led to the rear sticking a lot better, and gave us a much better balanced car. It still severely needs new shocks, but it went fast enough for me to hold the lead over a big Audi S4 by 0.156 sec. I should have been faster, having made some mistakes I can easily account for. PJ held onto 5th, with a 38.571. For those keeping track, I'm beating him by 0.567. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are very tight as well, so we have strong potential for things to move around after tomorrow's runs. I'll really need to be on my game and have dry weather to hold the lead. Unfortunately, dry weather does not really look too likely, but we will see. Our only real rain tire option are the set of Dunlop snow tires, which we used to get here, and will need for the drive home as well it seems.
The car has really gotten a lot of attention, usually of the nature such as "you guys really drove that all the way from Connecticut?" We've also received some "wow, you're pretty fast in that thing," though the fast guys in AS are beating us, never mind super stock.
We also ran into another New Englander here:

Like the other guy from Vernon, CT at the event, Jinx is also winning. His lead is somewhat more commanding, and he has actual rain tires.
Saturday results are here.

Ah that South Georgia air

About 100 miles from the destination, following a statie. At least we're somewhat safe!!! Windows are down and the air is nice. Roads are clean and the sky is blue. How're things up north?

The iPod has died

We're not even 2 hours in and the iPod is dead.
Traffic is crap, and it's raining... but this is fun, somehow, and we're all the way into NJ. More reports later.
